You need a limo for a special occasion. There are so many limousine companies and types of cars. Where do you turn?! Selecting the right limousine service can be overwhelming and confusing. But have no fear – we are here to help you find the right service and the right vehicle by asking just a few questions.
1. Is the limousine service licensed and part of any association?
A license is issued by the state and every limo service should have a license number to legally operate. Always check with the Better Business bureau and any associations like the National Limo Association.
2. How many years have they been in business?
You want your experience to be perfect. So, make sure that the company you hire has experience. The longer they have been around and the more experienced the staff – the more likely they are going to be on top of all of the details. Make sure the limo company has “been around the block”.
3. What about Insurance and safety?
Nobody likes to plan for misfortune, but “stuff” happens. Ask the limo service if they have liability insurance. Every car should have commercial vehicle insurance. Drivers should have background checks, have a clean driving record, and be knowledgeable about the area the limo company is servicing.
Lastly, ask about a vehicle inspection. A reputable limo company will be happy to have you drop by. You don’t want to have a dirty limo show up that still smells like someone else’s after party.
Lastly, make sure they have fixed these common problems:
- dirty carpets
- dirty trunk or passenger seating area
- inoperative clearance or side marker lights
- inoperative defrost, defogger or air conditioning
- inoperative door locks or door pulls
- inoperative license plate lamp
- inoperative parking brake
- inoperative turn signal lights
- missing tire jack, jack handle or lug wrench
4. What are others saying about this limousine service?
Ask your friends, family, co-workers, or an event planner. Get on Yelp, Google +, Facebook, or a web review service for limos in the area you are planning on renting from. There are many trustworthy sources to choose from!
5. How much does it cost?
Ask for an all-inclusive quote. You don’t want to find out at the end of your ride that there have been fuel surcharges, administration costs and tolls added to the base price.
Is the driver gratuity included in the quote? Most limousine services automatically charge a 15% to 20% gratuity.
If you call a few companies most prices will come back within a $40 range. Be sure to ask about the perks and options so you know what is included when making your decision. For example, can you stock the limo yourself? What is stocked for you if you can’t stock it yourself? Are disposable cameras included? What about snacks?
Looking for a bargain? Try renting on a Monday or Tuesday. Most limo companies are not busy then and will offer amazing discounts.
One last tip: Early summer is peak season – weddings and proms, etc.
6. What are the hours of operation?
Find out when your limousine service is available. Typically, limo companies are available to take your call 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. If they aren’t, you might consider looking at another company that is more customer service oriented.
7. What is the fleet size?
Are you interested in a stretch limo, party bus, airport shuttle, stretch SUV, hummer limo? Find out what their fleet size is and what types of cars they have in order to find the perfect vehicle for you!
9. Can I cancel?
Be sure to ask about the cancellation policy. Cancellations are common for limo companies, so you should be able to cancel your reservation. Make sure you get everything in writing.
